Hobbies: Watching movies, especially ones based on true stories and relaxing.
Biggest pet peeve: When people with a cold or sinuous problems breath in.
Role Model: My dad. My dad is someone who never gives up and is always hard working. He believed in me that I could do accounts.
Have you always lived in Likoni? No, I grew up in Mikindali (in Mombasa) and came to Likoni in 2006. That was the first time I had ever crossed the ferry.
How long have you been with Hatua Likoni? 9 years
How did you come to Hatua? Graduated in 2006 and had nothing to do. Gabi was looking for a room and she became my neighbor. We became friends. She was then starting the scholarship program. Kwame was translating for Gabi and they needed an accountant. My dad was an accountant and I was interested in going around to schools because I had nothing to do. I was going around with them and if Kwame wasn’t around I did the interpreting for Gabi. Later on when they needed someone to do accounts I realized that I could do it since my dad would teach me.
Favorite Hatua Program: Scholarships and Medical Camp. I really appreciate our scholarship program because I too was assisted to complete high school, but by someone I don’t know. There is no one I can thank. I like that the scholarships include mentoring and encourage students to stay motivated. I also loved the medical camp we did this past December. When so many people came, we realized how much people really needed those services. It was direct help at the most grassroots level.
Biggest success up until now: My lifestyle. It’s a big success because when I think of where I was, where I am now, and where I’m planning to go it is very different. My hard work has really paid off. My siblings look to me for help and I’m the second to latest out of eight.
If money were no object, what would you do all day? Community service and spend time with my kids.
Future goals: Purchase a plot and build a house, my dream house for my family.
