This past June and throughout August, Hatua Likoni participated in a mass film screening and discussion of the documentary, “He named me Malala” in partnership with PAWA 254 and The Malala Fund. The purpose of showing this documentary was to bring awareness and support to issues affecting girls education within our community and beyond.
The Malala Fund focuses on helping girls go to school and raise their voices for the right to education. With a team of 6 Hatua Likoni university beneficiaries, who were trained by PAWA 254 to implement the program and lead discussion on key issues, Hatua Likoni was able to reach over 2000 community members through 20 screenings, about equal opportunity for girls!
We hope that by sharing Malala’s story with our Likoni’s youth, community members and key educational stakeholders, we can begin a trend of encouragement and support for equal education of girls and children’s rights throughout Kenya.
