Purity Anyango’s Mentor Helped Her Pass the Bar Exam and Became Her Support System

When Purity Anyango completed high school, she hoped that like many of her peers, she would join university immediately. However, that was not to be. Her family was unable to financially support her university education, so Purity, determined to make her dream come true, applied for a Hatua scholarship.

This is Purity’s story of triumph and how her mentor became a transformational pillar of support in her budding law career.

“I completed high school in 2014 but faced financial constraints that prevented me from immediately pursuing tertiary education. The years 2015 to 2016 were marked by uncertainty for me.

I refused to lose hope. When I learned about Hatua Network and the scholarships they give students, I applied. After undergoing a rigorous selection process, I was granted a scholarship to study Bachelor of Laws at the University of Nairobi.

In 2021, I successfully completed my undergraduate program with Second Class Honours (Upper division). I am grateful that Hatua Network remained steadfast in its support and committed to financing my postgraduate studies at the Kenya School of Law (Karen Campus). This allowed me to enroll in the Advocates Training Programme (ATP) at the Kenya School of Law, where I passed the Bar exams.

During this challenging transition from undergraduate to law school, my mentor, Ruth Ogolla, recognized my potential. She offered insights and encouragement, and I leaned on her wisdom to adapt to the rigorous academic demands and overcome the initial hurdles I was facing.

After passing the Bar exam, I undertook pupillage at a law firm in Nairobi and subsequently became eligible for admission to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. On March 8, 2024, I was officially admitted to the Bar and licensed to practice Law.

Throughout my legal education, Ruth was a steady anchor offering guidance tailored to my strengths and aspirations. Whether it was deciphering complex legal concepts, refining my advocacy skills, or exploring career opportunities, I could always count on her.

I am so grateful to Ruth Ogolla and Hatua Network for helping me achieve my dreams and become a professional in the field of Law.”
